*Non Profit of the year

Nominee must be a 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 in Discovery Bay, Byron, Brentwood, Oakley or Bethel Island and have not won in the last 7 years

*Business of the year

Nominee must be a Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce member in good standing for at least a year and must be a locally owned or locally owned franchise and must be a “for profit” business. and have not won in the last 7 years

*Citizen of the year

Nominee must be an individual residing in the 94505-94514 and currently participate in humanitarian/volunteer activities that make a difference in the Town of Discovery Bay and/or the community at large, Inspires Others by their example. and have not won in the last 7 years

Hi,

My name is Francine Marie Fiebig, but I go by Francine Marie. I am the owner of Not Too Shabby here in Discovery Bay, which I call a boutique co-op. I bring in artists and local vendors who mostly make their items. I have a little bit of everything in Not Too Shabby until someone asks me for something I don’t have. I try very hard to listen to feedback from my customers. I also keep my prices as low as possible so everyone can shop. I think it is essential to keep your artists and vendors as close as possible so I can call them anytime and ask them to make an item in a different color or shape, etc.

I enjoy supporting the community. I have lived in Discovery Bay on and off for 30 years. I owned a house on an island for 10 years until it was taken down. It was called Salsbury Island. I moved back seven years ago. I have done co-op and online selling in the past, but have always wanted to have my own brick-and-mortar store. I enjoy getting up every morning knowing that I get to go to my store, Not Too Shabby. For me it‘s not like a job--it’s exciting and fun. Every day brings something new.

I have four grandchildren. They are my everything, they live in Idaho, and I try to see them every eight weeks. Finally I want to acknowledge the Invaluable support of my significant other in making my goal a tangible reality.

Guzzardo Team

2024 Business of the Year Nominee

Guzzardo Team has been active in the Discovery Bay community for 24 years selling over 300 properties in the area and promoting the Delta and Discovery Bay Lifestyle. It’s our community service and love for the area and the people that drives us. Mike and Jules Guzzardo co-founded the Paddle for Fame event which ran for 7 years and co-founded Save the California Delta Alliance that successfully fought off the Delta Gates project and continues to lodge legal challenges to the Delta Tunnel project. Jules is Currently President of the Discovery Bay Lions Club and Mike is Membership Director for 2024/2025 where we run great local events and donate to local charities. Mike started a Jr Sailing Program out of Discovery Bay Yacht Club in 2024 where he and his instructors volunteer their time to teach local youth. Jenny Biczkow, who joined us as our Buyers agent in 2022, is President of the Mothers of Brentwood Club who do local charity work, for 2024/2025 and Vice-President of Old River PTA.

We love the people in this great town and love giving back to the community.

The UPS Store

2024 Business of the Year Nominee

In 1999, Charles Dewitt began working at Mailboxes Etc. The company was eventually rebranded as The UPS Store Inc in 2003. Charlie worked his way up to manage one of the most successful stores in the area, working with hundreds of customers every day for eleven years. While working at the Oakland store, he met his future wife, Lori, who worked both at the UPS Store and at a video store across the way. When his son was one,

Charlie and his family moved to Byron and bought the UPS Store in Discovery Bay. Charlie works tirelessly to create a business that focuses on customer service and community at the forefront. There is always a space in the store for a food drive bucket, Lion’s eyeglasses donation, the local newspaper, or fliers for local businesses. He has proven himself to be incredibly knowledgeable and skillful in his work, putting extreme care into every task he is given. His overall commitment to the buisness has created an environment in which customers feel comfortable and confident that they will recieve the best possible service.

Charlie has dedicated twenty-five years to the UPS Store network and hopes to continue to serve this wonderful community for many years to come.

Byron Delta Lions Club

2024 Non-Profit of the Year Nominee

Why:

Byron Delta Lions Club is composed of 70 plus women of all ages and is an integral part of the Discovery Bay/Brentwood Community with many projects that benefit the area schools, Delta Christian Community Food Pantry, Lions Center for the Visually Impaired and the Contra Costa Medical Center. On a broader scale the club supports causes related to vision, childhood cancer, hunger, diabetes, disaster relief, environment, humanitarian, and youth.

How:

Conducts vision screening in local schools

Donates and volunteers at the local food pantry

Hosts four local Red Cross Blood Drives a year

Places wreaths on the graves of veterans at Union Cemetery

Delivers school supplies to local schools

Cohosts Special Kid’s Day for special needs kids and their families

Donates layettes to Martinez County Hospital for newborn babies

Sponsors students from Heritage High School in a Student Speaker contest

Raises money for scholarships for local high school students

Qualifications:

One of the club’s signature projects is vision screening students in preschool through middle school. Members who vision screen students are trained and certified. They are able to test over 5,000 local students a year with state of the art equipment.

The club finances their projects through fundraisers and donations. They are a great bunch of women who strive to help our community and our world to be a better place, and have fun doing it.

Coyote Crossing Ranch

2024 Non-Profit of the Year Nominee

Coyote Crossing Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary (CCRR&S) is a registered 501c3. We are an animal rescue, rehabilitation center and a safe haven for all animals. Our focus is taking in injured, neglected, mistreated and/or abandoned animals that are in need of a home. Animals that are able to be rehabilitated and rehomed will be adopted out and animals that are in need of continuous care, have special needs or are otherwise not suited to rehome will stay on the ranch for the remainder of their lives. All animals will receive vet care as needed and will be housed and fed in a safe, secure, peaceful environment.

Carolyn Graham

2024 Citizen of the Year Nominee

My husband Bob and I relocated from Discovery Bay in 2011 after 23 years in San Ramon.. My sister, Jenny Rodrigues and family live very close by, which makes living here even more special. We have a wonderful son, Kevin.

Before retiring in 2013, I was the Vice President of Operations for the National Food Lab.

We’re long-time members of Discovery Bay Yacht Club. I served as the Membership Director for the Club and am still active with Splashers who sponsor charitable events that benefit the community.

In 2014 I was chosen as Ambassador of the Year for the Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce and a few years later served as President.
In 2020, I was elected to the Town of Discovery Bay Community Services District Board of Directors.

I was recently re-elected for another four-year term and will serve as President in 2025. I’m excited to continue working with the Board of Directors and Town Staff on the challenges ahead.

In addition, Bob and I earned our Real Estate Licenses 2 years ago and are proud to work with Merrill Signature Properties.

We’re originally from the Midwest and believe that something that makes Discovery Bay so special is its small-town, Midwestern feel, where neighbors genuinely care for one another and offer support whenever it’s needed. The sense of community here is something rare and truly a blessing. I’m grateful every day to be part of such a wonderful place, where the values of kindness, cooperation, and mutual respect shine brightly.

Liz Clarke

2024 Citizen of the Year Nominee

A proud Discovery Bay resident since 1995, Elizabeth Clarke lives with her husband, Mike, and is the devoted mother of two sons and grandmother to three grandchildren. Deeply rooted in her community, Elizabeth has made significant contributions through her leadership and service. As the President of the Discovery Bay Chamber of Commerce, Elizabeth has successfully fostered new relationships and partnerships that strengthen the local business community. This year they started a Women’s Leadership Panel where she brought together top business women to share their secrets and experience with the community. She also serves as the Immediate Past President of the Byron Delta Lions Club, where she actively leads numerous service projects. Among her favorite initiatives is providing vision screening services to students within the Byron and Brentwood Unified School Districts, ensuring early detection and support for young learners.

Elizabeth is a passionate advocate for community well-being, contributing to efforts like supporting the Delta Food Pantry and honoring veterans through Wreaths Across America at the historic Union Cemetery. Her dedication extends to her professional life as well; she is the Owner and President of Structure Groups, a civil engineering firm specializing in construction inspection and materials testing for public and private projects. Elizabeth’s impact is not limited to her local community. She also holds prestigious board roles with the Geo-professional Business Association and the California Council of Testing & Inspection Agencies, where she helps shape industry standards and practices.

This year her exceptional leadership and vision have earned her recognition in both Fortune and Entrepreneur Magazines for their Extraordinary Women’s Issues. She was also featured in 110° Magazine for her creative take on leadership. Elizabeth is celebrated for her ability to balance professional success with meaningful community service, embodying the spirit of servant leadership.

Michelle Campos

2024 Citizen of the Year Nominee

Michelle Campos is the Proprietor of Campos Family Vineyards along with her husband of 34 years, Ric. Together they have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren. She and her husband have built a very successful environmental business for the last 28 years with over 100 employees. Currently Michelle serves on the Board of Vineyard Academy Christian School and Harvest Time. She also serves as an Elder at Harvest Rock Church that meets at the winery.

Michelle is passionate about her family, community and building strong healthy teams in business. Generosity and giving back to the community is something that is dear to Michelles heart. Her passion for Autism and ALS has enabled she and her husband through fundraisers and wine sales at the winery the ability to donate thousands of dollars for research and finding a cure. Michelle is the Co Founder of Rise Up Women of Purpose whose mission is to encourage and empower women to build and live the lives they were created for. She was named Woman of the Year in 2020 by Assemblymember Jim Fraiser for the 11th District in Contra Costa County.

Michelle believes serving the community is a very high calling. She believes we are ALL blessed to be a blessing to others!
